I’m the kind of guy who’s never met a spa he didn’t love.  I seek out these soothing experiences everywhere I go, whether I find myself overnight in L.A., on a cruise to Hawaii, in Vegas for the weekend, or overseas at a five-star European hotel.

Offer me steam, dry sauna, hot jacuzzi bubbles on my aching back, and I’m there.  When I’m feeling flush, I make it a point to spring for the exquisitely decadent trio of massage, body treatment, and facial.  Yes, there are princely sums attached, but they make me feel like a king.  And I’m well worth it.

One of my preferred local spots is Spa Las Palmas at Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage.  With its 20,000 square feet, 28 elevated second-floor treatment rooms, well-appointed locker room facilities, and team of superior therapists, it’s no wonder this place has been voted Best of the Valley by Desert Magazine.

The last time I indulged, I spent a half-hour lazing in the steam before Phillip administered an utterly rejuvenating coconut scrub followed by a stress-erasing back, neck, and shoulder massage.  Randall then gave me a refresher facial prior to my being invited to the Spa Courtyard, where I enjoyed a quick dip then a healthful, tasty lunch served poolside.

Spa Las Palmas offers a $30 day pass for one to enjoy the steam, sauna, and hot tub sans treatments.  But by far the best deal is the resort’s Spa Express Program, whereby membership affords not only one 50-minute treatment but discounted rates on subsequent appointments plus unlimited access to gym and locker room facilities.  Contracts of three, six, or 12 months are available for $119, $99, and $89 monthly, respectively.  Check out www.rancholaspalmas.com for more info.
