Hey, Macho Man. If you’re not In the Navy yet still want a rockin’ good time, don’t Go West—go east! To the Palm Springs Valley. But don’t stay at the Y.M.C.A. Instead, check in to one of Rancho Mirage’s four first class resorts—Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa, Omni Rancho Las Palmas, The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage, or The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa. See where I’m going with this? Yep, the one and only Village People are coming to town.
The famous sextet—also known as the Kings of Disco—will be singing all their hits at Evening Under the Stars, the annual benefit for the AIDS Assistance Program that takes place Saturday, April 30 on the green of The O’Donnell Golf Country in Palm Springs. Having been many, many years in a row, I must admit that this soirée is one of the liveliest and prettiest our community has to offer. What with the gorgeous night air and the great tunes put on by the guest stars. You might remember a few years ago, when AAP hosted The First Ladies of Disco, among them Evelyn Champagne King, Martha Wash, and France Joli.
This year—in which men take center stage—promises to be just as uplifting as the Native American, the Cop, the Soldier, the Biker, the Construction Worker, and the Cowboy reunite to help support a worthy charity that provides nutritional support to improve the quality of the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases throughout the Palm Springs Valley. It’s quite the rare appearance for these guys, who are more accustomed to playing on the East Coast or in Europe.
Tickets are still available at www.aidsassistance.org. So come for the cocktails, the dinner, the fireworks—and to see why The Village People have sold more than 100,000,000 records worldwide. What? Don’t you wanna funk with me?
