As much as I love my fun and fabulous life as an interior designer, man about town, and Rancho Mirage blogger, there are days and nights I sorely miss the days and nights I spent in my former fun and fabulous life flying all over the world as a first class flight attendant. Of all the countries to which I traveled, my favorite—hands-down—remains Italy. Oh, the tales I could tell of delicious layovers in Venice, Rome, and Milan. I’ll be returning to that beautiful European boot of a nation this summer—without ever leaving the Palm Springs Valley!
How, you may ask, will I accomplish this dizzying feat? By dining weekly at Sabatino’s Ristorante Italiano on Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage, that’s how. Each week, Sabatino’s will showcase a different region of Italy—Sicilia, Puglia, Sardegna, Veneto, Toscana, Umbria, Liguria, etc. Said week will be filled with food, wine, music, and culture from that region. Mondays and Tuesdays, Sabatino’s will be turned into a casual Italian café, with a bar menu, happy hour prices all night, wine tastings, and live music. Wednesday through Saturday nights will see the eatery espouse more refined dining, including a three-course option for just $22. The first region to be highlighted—Piemonte—begins June 16. Visit www.sabatinosranchomirage.com for the complete list.
And here’s a fun bonus to whet your appetite: Patrick Evans, the beloved desert meteorologist who moonlights as a master Italian sausage maker, will have his Fulvio’s Foods create a special sausage recipe for each region on the tour.
