Start your summer in the desert

Memorial Day may be the unofficial start to summer, but the federal holiday is also a day set aside for remembering and honoring those who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Rancho Mirage offers a number of opportunities to remember and relax over the holiday.

Remembrance

If you’ve never seen it, the Annual Memorial Day Flower Drop & Air Fair is an emotional sight to behold as a B-25 Mitchell Bomber showers the valley floor with 3,000 red and white carnations as a salute to fallen heroes. This Memorial Day (May 27th) flight exhibitions begin at 10 a.m. and include P-51, P-63, C-47, B-25, and a special visit by the PB4Y Liberator. The 1 p.m. Flower Drop Ceremony is followed by a Missing Man Formation. The day includes children’s activities, food vendors and music by the Heatwave Jazz Band. Bring a portable chair and visitors are encouraged to take home a carnation in remembrance.
