What has long been casually known as Westin Mission Hills now has an official new name. Recently, one of Rancho Mirage’s premiere resorts decided to capitalize on the fact that guests have the option of playing on not one but two of the best golf courses in the entire Palm Springs Valley. And so, the Westin Mission Hills was reborn as the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa. It makes perfect sense to me. Even as a baby-golfer, I know the merits of well-designed links like the Pete Dye Resort Course and the Gary Player Signature Course. And now everyone will know about them by the very virtue of the hotel’s new name.
What many might not know about, though, is that there’s a little hole in the wall at the Westin where those in the know can order up the simplest of dining delights: burgers and fries! If you happen to be taking a stroll around the resort, or enjoying a break from swimming in the nearby pool oasis, this aptly named burger joint—“Hole in the Wall”—is located on the side patio of the wonderful Pinzimini Restaurant. No fancy salads or chicken tenders here… we’re talking hamburgers, cheeseburgers, amazing fries, and thirst-quenching soft drinks. That’s it. And delicious they all are!
As a local who often meets up with friends at the Westin—and occasionally embarrasses himself trying to play golf—I’m always game for a good meal. Besides Pinzimini, which I regularly rave about, both the Fireside Lounge and Las Brisas Café & Caliente Bar at the pool offer great casual dining options before or after a round. But when you have that itch for a burger and fries, don’t miss that little hole in the wall. Just ask any one of the friendly staff to direct you there if its location eludes you. www.westinmissionhills.com
