It’s not so much Ladies’ Night as it is Women’s Week from the end of March to the beginning of April. That’s because two major Palm Springs Valley events that attract female fans from everywhere (not to mention the male friends and family who love them) take place side by side in and around Rancho Mirage in just a few weeks.
Let’s start with the ANA Inspiration, the first Ladies Professional Golf Association Major of the year, which celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2016, and which—like in all years past—takes place on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage from March 28 through April 3. More than a hundred pro female golfers will go head to head as they vie for the championship—and the chance to take that famous and historic victory leap into Poppie’s Pond come tournament’s end. Sponsored by All Nippon Airways, Japan’s largest airline, the event boasts a 2.6 million-dollar purse. Single tickets as well as packages are still available at www.anainspiration.com.
In a sweetly parallel universe, from March 30 through April 3, several venues throughout the Palm Springs Valley will host several events tied to Mariah Hanson’s Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend. A chic magnet for lesbians from all over the globe, “The Dinah” bills itself as “the largest girl party music festival in the world.” There will be pool parties, dance parties, live performances, and a Friday night White Party that will give the gay boys of Jeffrey Sanker’s The White Party a run for their rainbow-colored money. Just a few of the celebs slated to appear include pop princess Elle King and rapper Angel Haze, DJs Samantha Ronson and Taryn Manning (from Orange Is the New Black), and king of dyke comedians Lea Delaria (also from OITNB). Clearly, if you are a man or woman who loves women (no matter what form your “love” takes), you belong in the Palm Springs Valley even more than usual from March 28 through April 3. I’ll be there. My friend and fellow blogger Potter Palma will be there. So, where will you be?
